The official unveiling of the new murals in the big cat
area of London zoo will be at easter and will be
accompanied by a book/magazine giving relevant
information on them.
The first structure is directly in front of the Tigers in the Big cats area of London Zoo at Regents park.
These structures were built in the 1970’s and were beginning to look dated so the idea was to enliven them by creating old asian murals that look liked they had been there forever and would stand the test of time.
The areas to be worked were scaffolded with plastic covering and as you can see it was snowing when we were working there.
This is what kept us from freezing on the job!
Lower level.
Assistant Alessandra working on the leaves.
The first set of murals finished, notice the snow, I am working in the longest cold spell for 30 years.
Mock up of the other three of the monoliths to be worked on.
Actual area
First one, up goes the scaffolding.
On goes a specialist coloured plaster rendering.
Applied over areas only where art work is.
First 12ft asian tiger up and looking more ancient by the minute.
The talented photographer Jens Marott visited me at the studio and took some great photos for a book he is doing of artists in action, to see more of his work visit http://www.jensmarott.com
The next project is with the London Zoo at Regents park and I will be documenting the progress.
The exhibition is now over it was a critical success with over 100 people attending the opening night and a constant stream of a artists coming to look at the art and offering congratulations.
Do not miss my exhibition Heaven & Hell at the Maverik Showroom opening October 27th. 68-72 Redchurch street London E2 until November 1st.
I had to take a photo of this Graffiti.
Here is a clip from a documentary Heaven, Hell and Bagguley, talking about the contrast in my work the exert here is where I am talking about murals and a couple of my paintings
Having had a break from decorative art to work on my canvas's I have been back on site In Wanstead doing a mixture of specialist paint effects and venetian polished plaster
This is polished plater stone blocking using spatulta paste to get a high sheen, and you can see my specialist paint effects with water based acrylics.
This is the second time I have been asked to do this stunning pitted plaster with a golden wash to bring maximum cheer to the room.
I do not normally show my faux finishes but this was a better than normal in that it looked organic, I made it up on the spot.
Close up of faux finish.
